Closure of Topsoe Fuel Cell
Haldor Topsoe A/S announced 12-08-2014 its plan to close Topsoe Fuel Cell A/S, a subsidiary company within the Topsoe group focused on the development and commercialization of components and technology for high temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC).
As part of the closure Haldor Topsoe put all development of its SOFC technology on hold and focused on the development of selected applications in solid oxide electrolysis cell development (SOEC). Activities related to this specific area were moved to Haldor Topsoe during the second half of 2014.
The consequence for METSAPP with the closure of Topsoe Fuel Cell A/S was that a new partner for stack development was needed in the project, as well as a new project coordinator.
Topsoe Fuel Cell was dedicated to the development, manufacturing and marketing of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC). The company was at the leading edge of the SOFC technology.
Topsoe Fuel Cell's production facility
In 2008, Topsoe Fuel Cell established a cell and stack manufacturing facility with support from the EU LIFE Environment Program. The facility had a total capacity of 5 megawatt per year on an area of 2,500 m2. In August 2014 Topsoe Fuel Cell had more than 100 employees. Topsoe Fuel Cell was a wholly owned subsidiary of Haldor Topsøe with headquaters in Lyngby, Denmark.
Project contribution
Topsoe Fuel Cell had two major roles in the METSAPP project - as project coordinator and as WP leader for the stack development work package.
